The 3 Pillars on Internet Ambitions Part 1 of 4

I don’t think you have to go very far on the internet without seeing the temptation to start your own internet presence (if you haven’t already). Despite its enormous potential upsides and world audience, the internet leaves much to be desired in many areas (like the value of face to face interactions). Yet, I constantly receive communications and emails from people asking if this blog idea or that software program can teach them “everything they need to know” to launch a successful internet presence and more importantly, make money from it.
It’s funny to see some marketing pieces out there. They hype the potential so much -that you end up overly stimulated from all the examples of success and the never ending sales pitch letters. The funny part is, they shouldn’t be that long or need to overly state the potential. Anyone can run a simple search of a websites traffic and see how its doing and then see what they are marketing and find the data related to it and make a piece of that cash flow pipe. Yet for many, it remains illusive and looks more like a distant reward –conveniently set aside for those that have certain inheritant gifts of talent or “divine intervention.”
But honestly it’s neither one. Anyone can make an effective internet presence and make money from their efforts; but, it will take the core of three pillars to get there. When they say “it’s not for everybody”, yeah, it’s not for everybody if you don’t pour concrete on these essential items:
Pillar One: Tools
Before you start visioning all the things you will do with all the money you will make. Stop for a minute and setup a plan to get there first. You have to complete the tasks required by Pillar One by completing the following:
Site Design: Draw on a piece of paper what you want your site to look like, and then visit
the websites of those that presently have a related concept going on, to garner ideas. Then
implement that design by either having someone build your site for you or get busy
learning HTML, CSS, and PHP to make sure it turns out the way you want it.
Infrastructure: An internet presence like any other concept takes time and resources.
Make certain that you can dedicate the time (learning) and resources (capital) to deploy
your venture correctly so that you don’t end up wasting more time and resources later.
You have to understand that you will need a hosting solution for your internet presence
and the necessary tools like a personal computer and related internet presence accounts.
Configuration: Regardless of whether you just want a blog or website for recreational
purposes or monetary goals, you have to configure all the necessary components to make
that a reality. Remember that despite what you see about “quick and easy”, you have to
upload your images, articles, settings, and layouts. You have to give that presence your
personality. And that only happens by transferring what’s in your head to their screen.
Understanding: Do you know what a blog is? Okay good, how about a backdoor hack?
No one says that you have to become the next Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings to say
that you know what you’re doing when it deals with your internet knowledge, but you do
need to know how it all comes together. You may have to visit Wikipedia and print down
some core definitions of what you are seeking to do or you may have to read a bunch of
blog entries (like this one) to see where you are going. Even if you are rich and can hire
everyone and everything you need, you should understand how it all works. Learn the
business and understand the technology.
