eCommerce Economy
Commerce is taking a beating in the 2009 economy, but don’t worry! There is always a new way to make money. Especially when you apply economies of scale.
Take this for example. If the economy is so bad, then why is Wal-Mart, McDonald’s and some online retailers having record breaking earnings? Because people like to save money as much as anyone else. So let’s take a look at a growing trend in eCommerce that maybe, just maybe, will help you bump on over to the next level. And don’t worry, I’m going to tell you who the online retailer is that is having record breaking quarters (in a bad economy).
It’s the growing segment of the the population turning to SEO and eCommerce. Yep, no sooner did the mortgage industry end, that you now have a bunch of former mortgage professionals dialing every number on the yellow pages trying to sell a person "1st spot placement on Google." Have you received one of those calls yet? Wait. You’re next.
However, the other of this new phenomenon is the growing side of eCommerce.
Now, when you thing eCommerce you probably think Amazon and eBay, but there is a huge economic force moving through the economy that is creating jobs as well as fortunes for those that figure out the path. And that is the new busines of converting a brick and mortar store into an eCommerce business. This is the new path to making money for most retailers, yet many are still scratching their heads trying to figure out exactly what is going on.

So here is what is going on. Some, that have figured it out are making money; and the others are not. So how can this benefit you? Easy.
- Go look into Yahoo Merchant Solutions and read up a bit on a Yahoo Store.
- Go look into ProStores which is the competitor to Yahoo and read up a bit on a ProStore.
What these business tools are doing is making it possible for you to take a businesses’ inventory of items and upload them to the internet. But not by taking pictures of them and putting them on the internet eBay style. No, this is catalog wide uploads.
Want a new career? Learn the business of catalog products for online retailers. That is where the economy is heading, and that is where the money is. For more information, visit some of these additional resources. I will write about some specific solutions like eCarts and Order Management solutions you can use in the next posting, where I will also fill you in on that quarter busting retailer. In the meantime, if you want more than just a job in eCommerce, make sure you invest in a good book about Yahoo Store, ProStores or even Amazon and you’ll see things really start to change for your business. Of course, if the business next door isn’t saying anything about it, its because he knows better.
When you see them close, its not because of the bad economy; it’s usually because they just bought the warehouse down the street.

CONCLUSION
The pillars are mile markers to guide you along the way. They are not benchmarks. Benchmarks are what you set for yourself and how you decide to deploy the presence. This is why I see the interest level from people split off into three distinct groups:
Group A: Those that are super-hyped about the opportunity and roast in the emotion
of the information until they overload and eventually do nothing in the end.
Group B: Those that are excited but take a step back and begin to absorb scattered
and unrelated information only to crash and burn later on down the road.
Group C: Those that hone in on the 3 pillars above are carry them out prescriptively
and further supplement their information by reading resource and
instruction guides like BLOG LIFE – The Internet Business Explained.
You can download a free copy by signing up for our monthly newsletter.
You’ll need guides of this nature because as you progress its going to get more and more involved, but you won’t mind because you will be on your way. I remember when I started and the task seemed daunting and far, far away. But like all things in life, you learn. This is probably also where everyone else would say “if I can do it… etc, you can do it…etc” but instead, I’ll say “its not for everyone.” In the end, it’s your presence: you decide.
I hope this article helps you to sort out all the information out there about having an internet presence. If this information was useful to you, feel free to post your comments. You can also contact me by using the contact form on the right, and thank you for your continued time and support.
The 3 Pillars on Internet Ambitions Part 3 of 4

Pillar Three: Marketing
There is a famous saying in the marketing business about people that market without knowing what they are doing, and it goes something like this: “I know that half of my marketing efforts are working, –I just don’t know which half…”
Focus: Marketing is not search engine optimization. Marketing is also not doing
everything possible (and desperate) to plaster your site presence everywhere. However,
marketing IS the effective distribution of your previous efforts (as sequenced above).
Having everything ready and sequenced puts you in the position to take your content to
your audience, and in turn, –take that audience to your sponsors.
Distribution: Although you can bring your site to the top of the search engines by just
paying for that priviledge, you must remember that search engines are only one of many
options. Search engines make money by selling advertisements on their search results.
They do not make money when you come up on those same results through organic
means. Yet despite organic or paid inclusion methods of presence, remember to use the
old brick and mortar systems too. For example, send an email to a 2nd or 3rd place
newspaper (columnist) or radio station (DJ) telling them about your site (and the
wonderful article you wrote about them). Expand those efforts to include social media
sites like MySpace and target that super popular blogger or surfer and write about them.
After all, everyone enjoys telling people where they’ve been written about.
Traffic: When you annex the three pillars into the sequences above, you will know the
answer to your traffic question. The combination of all those efforts, from planning to
setup to posting to indexing to paid/organic inclusion to distribution, is what will come
together and drive your traffic. What keeps them there is the information you provide.
So think about that one. Is what you write or post about, interesting? People want
information that will enrich their lives or at a minimum, provide some level of interest.
What you don’t want is traffic, –that has nothing to see or read because you’re not ready.
