The Secrets of SEO
Now honestly, how many of you have actually spent time or money trying to figure out how to get your site or blog to show up "on the 1st place on Google" search results?? Maybe you’ve been on a forum asking "what is the secret of SEO?" If you are not one of the many trying to figure out the Secrets of SEO, then you would be new to the business or a little behind on the times. At least from the perspective of those that know the value of internet traffic.
By now, savvy minded persons have figured out that if you are on the 1st spot on Google search results, you are most likely to receive free traffic to your site and not have to pay for it in many ways. I mean, just look at this graph on this posting to see how important the 1st page 1st spot ranking is.
Getting to that spot has proved to be as trivial and confusing and expensive for many. But Search Engine Optimization doesn’t have to be.
Primarily because there are lots of website service companies out there that say they will get you on the 1st page/spot, but don’t show you how. And then there are the bloggers out there that give you a tip or summary of tips to get ranked, but don’t actually bring all the parts together in a way that you can clearly get on that first spot! What is the Secret of SEO? Content, Inbound Links, and Time.
First off, let’s be honest. Google is in business to make money on search results through advertisements. They are not going to give any exception to anyone just because they pulled some tricks here and there. Bottom line: you have to have real content that is important and relevant. Do that, and the 1st spot is yours.
The Secret is, there is really no true Secret to SEO! Just follow these guidelines and you’ll be on top of every search result, just like you’ve always wanted. But, if you still want to call them Secrets, then here they are:
- Secret of SEO 1: Content
- Secret of SEO 2: Relevance
- Secret of SEO 3: Importance
- Secret of SEO 4: Inbound Links
- Secret of SEO 5: WebMaster Tools
- Secret of SEO 6: Patience
- Secret of SEO 7: Time
Secret of SEO No. 1 is content. You’ve heard and seen it before. You have to understand that in order to be at the top, you have got to be the most authoritative site on the internet. To do this your content must be the place where everyone goes for it. Don’t start saying that you have to be a professor to be an authority. It is not about being a PhD in the field. It is about having the final authoritative location for content. What you write and contribute to that specific sort of content (news, entertainment, gossip, How Tos, travel, etc) is your content. However, thinking that you are the only source for that information is short sighted. Just like there is no Secret of SEO, you shouldn’t keep what you have a secret. Add some links from your site to some of the other major sites that cover such things (even your competition), and you’ll soon see over time how quickly they will come back and link back to you! Now, their is your content and theirs for reference. This truly is the "secret" to becoming the best authoritative site in your niche.
Secret of SEO No. 2 is Relevance. You going to be an authoritative site about what? And if so, are you relevant. If you are going to be an authority on something, make sure you are relevant to that and stick to it. This blog is about marketing, entertainment, entertainment and ways to make and save money. Sounds like a lot right? It probably is to tell you the truth. Maybe I should have chosen just marketing, or maybe just technology; or maybe just on ways to save money. But guess what? My header reads "Control the way you make and save money." So it’s relevant to that. Wether you are into technology, marketing or entertainment. Those venues can cost you or make you money. If you like to know how to save or make money from them, read on. If not, then find one that does cover what you need. But most important, be relevant to that. I wouldn’t want to cover things like Britney Spears on this site, unless, there was a way I could make or save (concert tickets, discounts etc) money from Britney Spears! Stay relevant.
Secret of SEO No. 3 is Importance. How important is what you are writing about? Does anyone really care about your cat? Or does your content discuss ways to modify your Mustang? If it does, does it show a person how they can benefit from it? Can it add value to them while mentioning what is important to you? Everything is important to somebody, you just have to make it so. I can’t even imagine writing an article about saving money on travel on how much money I saved without telling people how to do it. Secrets on personal matters can stay with you, but secrets that can become open information that can help people are important! Don’t hold back. Tell the world what you know and how it can help them and how important it is to you and you’ll soon realize that people appreciate you sharing your "secrets." If you know it’s important, share the secret!
Secret of SEO No. 4 is Inbound Links. How many of you have other blogs or websites pointing to you? Or, if you don’t know what that means, how many of you use Webmaster Tools? Or Shoemoney Tools? Basically, Google and all the other search engines consider you "important" if you have other blogs and sites pointing to you. If someone somewhere has found your site or blog interesting, they are going to provide a link that brings them to your site. This is very valuable as it determines your importance, page rank, and of course popularity. And because Google and the others want to send people to the most likely site on the internet, the more inbound links you have, the more likely you are to be ranked and placed higher. Having said that, Google’s Webmaster Tools show you how to do a few things to your site that will help you with ranking and relevance. Shoemoney Tools on the other hand, has made it possible for you to buy domains that already have a certain number of links pointing to them that you can use to your advantage. Even if it’s a service that requires sign-up, so what, sign-up, buy the domains and then close the account!
Secret of SEO No. 5 is WebMaster Tools. Did you catch how I mentioned this in the last secret? WebMaster Tools is something that is offered by all three of the major search engines. MSN WebMaster Tools, Yahoo WebMaster Tools and Google WebMaster Tools have basically said, "here, use these tools that we provide for you to get the resources you need to get properly listed with us." They are there, but many people don’t even know that such a thing as WebMaster Tools exists! Now this is not everybody, and it is no secret to many, but it is News to some. If you have a website or blog, follow the links and setup your WebMaster Tools accounts -it will be the best thing you have done for your website or blog in a while!
Secret of SEO No. 6 is Patience. Yes, patience. You cannot possibly believe that Google or MSN or Yahoo are going to drop everything they are doing to send their crawl "bots" to index your website the minute you sign up for WebMaster Tools or initially setup your site or blog. Once you setup your domain, they will come and visit and take what they need. Of course having visited the WebMaster Tools areas for those search engines first, gives you a huge leg up on what the "bots" find. You can also go a step further and setup a robots.txt file on your site or blog too by following my instructions. This helps you, help the "bots" know what to crawl and how often. By crawling your site index, you are telling the search engines what is on your site. But again, they make no secret of their arrival; it just takes time! Sometimes they will crawl right away, sometimes it takes a few days. Every time you make a change, they will visit. So patience is very important, because to be optimal on your SEO it can sometimes take from 2 to 6 months to see the results. Wait for it… wait for it…
Secret of SEO No. 7 is Time. Yes, 2 to 6 months. Give it time. As you add content to your site or blog, the bots show up and crawl. The relevance is determined by your focus on a theme or topic or concentration. Your importance is determined by those inbound links, and your webmaster tools ensure that the search engines know you are committed to being a true source of authority in your field. You can only improve your overall engagement and marketing on the internet with Shoemoney Tools, but that is only for those that seek that level of resources or wish to monetize their efforts sooner. However, even with these tools you must take the time to know it will happen.
Now for those out there that say, "yes, but you have to make the URL search engine friendly and follow some more steps to make sure that you DO get on that spot eventually etc." FINE! Here it is: More Secrets of SEO!
There, you got ‘em all. Now go do it! But give me some feedback on my comments area ok? Remember, no secrets, just good SEO!
